In the next couple of days, DeepStacks, one of the biggest poker tours in the world, will be heading to Colorado. The series, which will be at the Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, will run from Oct. 10 – 21. The World Poker Tour DeepStacks $1500 no-limit hold’em, which is the main event, will highlight the series. It will run from Oct. 17-21.
Three starting flights will feature at the main event on Oct. 20. The final table will be on Monday, Oct. 21. Faraz Jaka, who is a Colorado resident and top pro won the maiden WPTDS Black Hawk main event last May for $104,900.
This casino hosts a number of major tournaments across the year with numerous stops from the Mid-States Poker Tour, Heartland Poker Tour, and WPTDS. No casino property in Colorado is home to poker tournaments run by these brands.
The most recent HPT event attracted 930 entries making it the biggest tournament in Colorado’s poker history. With new management at the helm, the numbers will only get better. John Padmore, a poker manager, took over the reins last February. He has spent considerable time trying to improve his player’s tournament experience.
He said that the number one compliant he had heard so far about the room had to do with long alternate lists. ‘’It was an achievement to accelerate the alternate process. I tend to smile every time a player buys late into a $1500 event and then asks, ‘how long is your alternate list?’, and then I answer, ‘we will get you into the tournament right away.’’’
Although Golden Gate is not a big casino itself, it seems to be right at the heart of everything. It happens to be the premier destination for poker tournaments in the state. The casino is connected through a pedestrian bridge to Mardi Gras Casino, its sister casino. In spite of its small size, the Golden Gates Casino is reputable for housing one of Black Hawk’s biggest poker rooms. Roulette, craps, and blackjack are also available.
